THE LIVING GOD

In a previous Thompson Truth, I spoke about AI vs I AM, who is The Living God. That got me to thinking about something.

The Living God, now that’s a phrase that you don’t often hear spoken.

There are many different names that people use to describe God…Source, Yahweh, Spirit, Jehovah, Jah, man upstairs, Father, The Big Guy, etc.

But rarely do you hear, The Living God. Wonder why?

Let’s look back at one of the earliest times when God was called that.

The title, The Living God, appears in the Bible some 30 times. It was first recorded in the book of Deuteronomy 6, during the children of Israels exodus from exile and enslavement in Egypt.

As slaves in a system, you can encounter many gods. Your boss can be viewed as god, culture can viewed god, certain groups can be seen as god, goals can be god, certain methods can become god, and status can be seen god. As you might have noticed, I wasn’t only speaking of the children of Israel.

In Egypt/Culture everyone has a god, and there are also those who fashion themselves to be a god. There is even an American radio talk show host who calls himself “tha god”.

When the people of God were/are asked what or who is their god, their reply is not the standard answer.

The people of God cannot point to a statue and say there he is! Nor could they look at any object, or set of objectives, and say there is my god.

The people of God can’t point to a cross, a denomination, a book, a building, an organization, or any symbol and say, there is Our God.

The people of God serve the True and Living God, he is alive. He is none of the things we previously mentioned. Those things might serve as evidence of who he is, but they are certainly not Him.

The “non-living gods” spoken of in the Bible were false gods, those that were products of human imagination, built by human hands like idols, titles, technology and other things that someone would esteem as valuable. Things like money, power, fame, position, relationships, or one’s ego.

The false gods are not dead, because they were never alive.

The people of God worship the only Living God. He is the God who hears, sees, cares, acts, and walks with his people through everything they will ever encounter. The Living God is the God who relates to all that is living.

The Living God is in a class all by himself. There is no other god that is living and active. The Living God will endure forever.

He is The Living God, not only because He is alive, but also because He is the giver of all that is living. He is El Chai, the source of all life. He blew life into a lump of clay that became a living soul named Adam.

Other gods must be maintained by those that made them, because they cannot do for themselves, such as technology, lifestyles, and ambitions.

Not so with the Living God, he is God all by himself. He is El Shaddai, the self-sufficient one.

For centuries others have worshipped lifeless false gods/idols while The Living God provided them with their life.

The children of Israel experienced an interactive Living God that showed them his attentiveness to their plight in numerous unique ways.

The world’s religious community makes up almost 83% of the global population.

Many of whom fall into twelve classical religions–Baha’i, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, and Zoroastrianism.

These twelve religions are the most prominent spiritual traditions that still exist.

Perhaps that’s why the Bible regularly stresses that The Living God doesn’t merely exist, but he lives.

He is the God of all creation; He is the Living God!
