CONVENIENT FAITH

‍Is Faith supposed to be Convenient?

Should it require some level of effort on our part? Or should it just be easy and not troublesome ?

‍Previously, I shared some non-traditional perspectives on Disruptions.

‍Either you do, or still don’t, like disruptions, depending upon your receptivity to what I presented. Feel free to review those viewpoints. DISRUPTORS — Benton T. Thompson III

‍Truth is…Disruptions ARE Disruptive, and Convenience IS Convenient!

‍And who amongst us doesn’t enjoy Conveniences? I know that I do!

They make us feel comfortable, safe, warm, and we like that.

‍But before we get into Convenient Faith, let’s look closer at Convenience.

‍What is Convenience?

‍Merriam Websters dictionary defines Convenience as the state of being suitable, easy, or comfortable. It epitomizes a lack of difficulty.

There are a great many things that have been made convenient for us. Here are a few examples:

‍-         Time: We’ve all had instances when we were allowed to arrive at whatever time was convenient for us.

-         Products: Various manufacturers make products like slip-on shoes, Keurig’s, heated & cooled beds, all for our convenience.

-         Services: Restaurants have call-in, pick-up, drive-thru and take-out and Uber eats just for our convenience.

-         Automation: Driverless cars, Waymo, cell phones, tap to pay, and a host of other automation has made things easy for us.

Still, there are some things, that have not been made Convenient.

‍Things like, High Level Academic Achievement, High Level Professional and Technical Careers, Child Rearing and Healthy Relationship Building, have not been made Convenient nor Easy.

‍Too often our comfort-seeking ways put us in a default mode mindset, where we expect everything to be effortless. It can lead us into thinking that everything should be made comfortable for us, even Faith.

‍Is the purpose of Faith to be accommodating to our every desire?

‍If I’m made to feel convenient, why would I even need Faith?

‍Before you answer, let’s look at some of the Costs of Convenience.

‍We all know that Convenience provides some things, but it also takes.

‍Here are some of the things that Convenience robs us of:

‍1.    Resiliency. We will never develop the strength to endure anything.

‍2.    Movement. Things become sedentary without movement and can cause debilitation.

3.   Growth. We lose the ability to reach or stretch for something

‍4.    Communication. We have no reason to pray, for anything.

5.    Community. We become socially isolated. ‍

And here is a really big one that convenience robs you of:

‍6.    Joy. You won’t get to feel the elation of seeing something happen, that you thought couldn’t/wouldn’t happen. It’s a great feeling knowing that only God could have done that, and he did it for you!

‍Convenience can help us feel comfortable in the Temporary, but only Faith can prepare us to be comfortable in Eternity.

Convenient Faith, can make for a fun friend, but a terrible life partner.

‍The opposite of Convenient Faith is Challenging Faith.

‍Here are a few of the benefits of Challenging Faith.

‍When you are Challenged…

Trust Increases – Now you have evidence that you can overcome.

Transformation Occurs – Experience shows you, another version of you.

Triumph Mindset – You go from the victim, to knowing you’re a Victor.

‍Challenges birth Change! Change is Disruption!

It’s okay to have things disrupted and shaken up from time to time, that allows the good parts that have settled on the bottom to come up.

‍“Stir up your Faith!” and see the good, that’s been hidden for you.

This is a Thompson Truth
