SPIRITUAL BRAIN DAMAGE - PART A
From a neurological perspective, Brain Damage is the destruction or deterioration of natural brain cells. It is the result of an external trauma, like a fall or accident, or from internal trauma, like a stroke or infection.
Oftentimes our Natural and Spiritual realms are conjoined and share many common experiences.
Such is the case with Spiritual Brain Damage. Our Spiritual Brain was damaged by a fall, that led to a neurological dysfunction. That fall took place in the garden of Eden with the first Adam. The result of his fall has lasting ramifications for all humanity. Remember, the word “Adam”, is just an archetype, one that represents a pattern for humanity.
The first Adam’s fall was because of his choice to select information over revelation. Information comes from Earth; Revelation comes from Heaven. Prior to the first Adam’s slip and fall, all that he adhered to, all that he knew, and all that he lived by, came from the Word of God.
His paradigm shift caused damage to his Spiritual Brain cells and ours. When the first Adam changed his philosophy, he changed his future. Every decision comes with consequences either good or bad. We get to choose the decision, but we don’t get to choose the consequence. So, we should take our time and choose wisely, not rashly nor emotionally, before making a choice.
The first Adam made the decision to become self-reliant and opted not to remain God-reliant. The consequences of that decision brought on a cause and effect like he had never experienced before, that effect was called “Anxiety”. Unfortunately, this would become a “new normal”.
At that single moment in time, all humanity got exposed to his same dis-ease. This is the formula that his actions produced; Self-reliance= Anxiety.
Despite the best efforts of the first Adam to trust and believe God again, he was never able to achieve that goal due to the Brain Damage.
Perhaps many of us, like the first Adam, have also experienced, an external or internal trauma that caused us to doubt or not trust God.
He was no longer able to fully trust God. Humanity needed a new and better archetype for us to overcome this damaging injury and illness.
Spiritual brain damage is not just an opinion from a Theological perspective; it has also been upheld from a Scientific viewpoint.
The National Library of Medicine - National Center for Biotechnology and Information, performed a review on the neural circuitry for spirituality and religiosity derived from patients with brain legions and agreed that preexisting conditions have altered the brain.
They cited that spiritual and religious behaviors have been present since early stages of human evolution and played a significant role in shaping most human societies.
Their report showed that over 80% of the global population consider themselves religious with even more identifying as spiritual, but the neural substrates of spirituality and religiosity remain unresolved. In other words, the brain could not justify or fully accept this belief.
Their findings were that spirituality and religiosity map to a common brain circuit centered on the periaqueductal grey (PAG)(a grey area), a brainstem region that was also implicated in fear and pain modulation.
In their review of more than 356 lesions of the brain they found that lesions associated with our spirituality and fear intersect at the PAG. “Afraid to Believe”
What does this mean in plain terms? Humanity’s spiritual understanding was damaged when the first Adam chose to stop trusting God.
Since then, we tend to rely more heavily on intellectual reasoning than on spiritual discernment. We can’t believe it, unless we see it!
But all hope is not lost, there was another architype, another Adam.
Repair is possible…
