SPIRITUAL BRAIN DAMAGE - PART B

“Every day we’re hustling, hustling” as one songwriter puts it. But with that type of mindset, it makes it difficult to find room for anything else, especially our spiritual well-being. That part of us often gets overlooked, neglected, ignored, bullied, drained, disconnected, and depleted.

But what can be done about it? Is it possible to have a spiritually healthy mindset amidst everything that life keeps throwing at us?

The answer is Yes, but it requires a deliberate choice to be made. If you want a different outcome, then you must make a different choice.

Previously I shared that our Spiritual Brain Damage is the result of a choice that the first Adam made. He chose information over revelation.

So, what’s the big deal? What’s the difference? Either is fine, right?

“Coincidentally” our Information Age closely mirrors the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, that was in Eden. Eden means a safe haven, a place of peace and delight. As a result of the first Adam’s choice to live by revelation he was living in a type of heaven on earth.

Then along comes information, which carries power and using it wisely requires maturity. If misused, negative consequences are the result. That incorrect choice got him and his wife thrust out of heaven on earth.

One of the dilemmas that the fall brought on was that mankind received enormous knowledge of how to do bad, just as well as how to do good.

That tree represented for Adam the choice between submitting to God’s guidance or a personal moral autonomy…doing what seemed right.

“there is way that seems right, but it leads to ways of death” Proverbs 14

In this Information Age of data, news, and content are produced at such a high rate; providing instant access to knowledge. This avalanche of information has turned into a deluge, flooding our minds and making us anxious, overwhelmed, distracted, worried, sick, in many cases, stuck.

A study conducted found that, on average, a person is exposed to an amount of information equivalent to 174 newspapers per day/5M words.

This constant exposure to new and often contradictory information has led to Infobesity/Information overload/Infoxication/Data Dumbness.

We are constantly processing, searching, categorizing, re-categorizing, and trying to sort through, store, or discard information all day long.

This constant cognitive multitasking leads to mental fatigue, which burns us out, so we can’t, or don’t want to do anything. Not even pray!

Here’s where we see the difference between Information and Revelation.

Information fills your mind; Revelation transforms your whole person.

Information is Earth born; it’s comprised of data, facts, or concepts gathered through intellectual study and observation by people.

Revelation is a sudden, supernatural impact on your soul, with an unveiling of a deeper truth that gets revealed to you through your spirit.

Informed – I’m told. Revealed – I’m shown. Here’s the difference.

#1Acquisition Where did you get, what you say you know?

Information is acquired externally—through what we read, hear, are told, taught, and memorized using our intellect and five senses.

Revelation is received inwardly. It goes well beyond formal study and reaches your spirit as a clear, undeniable realization—an “aha” moment.

#2 AffirmationHow do you know it’s true?

Information affirms itself to be true via the internet or social community.

Revelation is validated in your spirit, along with Gods Word & people.

# 3ApplicationHow are you using it?

Information equips you with facts that are used for self-glory. It can answer what happened, but it cannot tell you why. It’s only a concept.

Revelation brings clarity and life to you and others. It answers the why, by changing your perspective, actions, and character. Blessed to Bless

#4AuthorizationBy who’s authority do you operate in it?
Information is sourced through Earth, and driven by mankind’s

logic and curiosity. Self-authorization is all that is required.

Revelation is sourced supernaturally, understood spiritually and adds enlightenment and truth to others as presented by God and His Spirit.

Both revelation and information have their place! But revelation is much more important, for without it, we would perish/dwindle away.

“Where there is no revelation, people lose their way/unstable; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” Proverbs 29:18

God reveals Himself and things we want to know through revelation!

Our spirit longs for revelation, but we often mistake that longing for a desire for more information.

Know this! Your life is a Revelation just waiting to be experienced.

This is a Thompson Truth.
