STAND THE TEST OF TIMING
Many of us are likely familiar with the popular idiom that asks the question can something “Stand the Test of Time”.
This saying wants proof that an object, relationship, or idea can remain useful, valuable, and respected over time. It refers to a thing or person’s reliability. Which is important.
A time test can be great for things that are subject to time, but what about the things in life that are outside the boundaries of time? When there is no set time for an outcome can be known or shown.
Time is a specific predetermined measurement of a point or moment.
But questions usually arise when there is no definitive time.
Things like doubt come into play when there is no set time for answers or understanding. How long will I have to deal with this illness? When will I stop feeling lonely? When will a get a job? Time can’t answer.
Many obsess over Time, but Timing is also very significant.
Timing speaks to your level of patience, trust, and commitment. Are you willing to trust the process?
Challenges come to see if we can Stand the Test of Timing, not Time.
Perhaps the better question is, Can we withstand the Test of Timing?
Time and Timing are often used interchangeably, but they each have different meanings.
We are not naturally able to tell or know the time. Our brain does not run on a clock. That’s why minutes and hours can pass by so easily.
But conversely, we are better suited to determine the timing of a thing. We don’t need to look at a watch to determine when it’s time to leave a relationship that’s bad for us. A child’s birth is not based on a clock; no one can predict the exact time when the new arrival will appear. A doctor can only give you the timing based on some other occurrences.
This difference between Time and Timing is Chronos versus Kairos.
Time / Chronos is quantitatively measured. Timing / Kairos is qualitatively measured.
One measures how long an event was, while the other measures how we faired through the event.
Our human instincts are built on Kairos Timing, not Chronos Time.
Being mindful of Chronos Time can make you Efficient, but being mindful of Kairos Timing is what makes you Effective.
Kairos in Greek refers to the optimal moment.
Timing is about optimizing the return on the investment of Time.
Time is an Act; Timing is a Strategy.
We just don’t want to spend time just to be spending time. Timing is how we capitalize on the time we spend.
Too often we make decisions based on Chronos, when we should be making them based on Kairos.
Sometimes we make decisions based on Biology or Emotionolgy.
Seasons in a relationship reveal more than a single meeting or date.
Time can be illusive, Timing reveals character.
Anything can look good for a moment, but a few months might offer a different perspective.
There is a wise Proverb that says, “Truthful words will be known in time, one day every lie will be seen for what it is”
Timing (Kairos) is the art of waiting for the outcome that will achieve the best results.
Are you willing to wait for the Kairos moment? The hour of power!
Do you want it when you want it, or do you want it when it’s ready?
Time is like a scratch off, too often little can be gained, but much can be lost. Timing is a long-term investment.
Time can be random and varied. Timing is about quality.
The challenge of Time itself is the real issue here. We don’t begin our lives thinking about how long we will live, but then later when we get older our focus shifts.
When we were young, we thought we had all the time in the world. One day we realize that’s not true, but is it too late to do something about it?
Most of us find the greatest sense not in a task but rather a relationship.
Many great people that we’ve either read about or know spend most of life chasing an act or agenda.
Whenever you see a grave headstone marker, that person’s life is only represented by a dash between two dates. For many that dash will not begin to tell their whole story.
Perhaps people may recall what you did, but they'll never forget how you made them feel.
Invest your timing in other people, that’s how your legacy can live on.
The Test of Timing is not counted in minutes, but impactful moments you spend with others.
It’s not about what you’ve done in time, but rather the impact you’ve left in eternity.
Let us not waste this precious Timing we’ve been given!
This is a Thompson Truth
