ANATOMICAL SPIRITUALITY - IM ALL IN
In 2 Timothy we are told to “rightly divide the word of truth” and that’s what we will be doing today as it relates to Spirituality & Our Body.
We’re going to cut-up the truth so we can digest it and cut out the lies.
The word Anatomical lets you know that we are going to be discussing our anatomy, the human body. The word "anatomy" derives from the Greek "anatomia," meaning to dissect, cut up or divide.
Spirituality relates to us having the nature of Spirit. The English word “spirit” comes from the Latin “spiritus” meaning breath.
This means the breath in our bodies is Spirit. Further, when we breathe, we take in air from around us; that is also Spirit. We are Spirit, we breathe by the Spirit, and we take in spirits from our surroundings!
The spiritual realm deals with eternal realities related to our human nature and our mortal bodies to help us interpret, comply or contrast what we are experiencing in this natural temporal world around us.
Anatomical Spirituality helps us to begin to understand how the human body & Spirituality are interconnected and designed to work together in harmony. We are spiritual beings yet were housed in a natural flesh body. Prayer and worship both happen through our body.
Spirituality gets distributed through a Physically process.
For some, Faith only happens on the inside, involving only a person’s spirit. They believe that faith is mindless and just relegated to feelings. “I felt like God wanted me to do this or that!” “Ouuwue, I felt that!” Spirituality should be more than just goosebumps. It’s a multi-faceted experience involving all of one’s complete personhood, your total being.
The prophet Jeremiah said, it felt like an unquenchable fire in his bones.
The question was asked, how should I love God? The Answer said, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor likewise.
That’s Anatomical Spirituality. Loving God and others, with your All!
Some believe all you need is your spirit, and you’ll be good. That type of thinking objectifies Spirituality as something to be possessed.
The truth of the matter is that Spirituality is a full-on experience that cannot be compartmentalized in just one part of your being. Spirituality is meant to be experienced holistically, requiring participation from all parts of your complete self; intellectually, emotionally, practically, theoretically and physically. Body, Mind, and Spirit.
We need all three of the B’s to truly experience Spirituality as it was meant to be experienced. We need our Body, Brain, and Belief System.
Our Body provides:
· Ears to Listen to Gods word and Gods heart
· Hands to Service Gods people and do his work
· Arms to be lifted in Praise and Adoration
· Mouth to Declare & Decree Gods goodness and grace
· Knees to offer up Prayers & Praise for Gods mercy and guidance
· Feet to Spread Gods love and to walk in obedience to his word
Through our bodies we don’t only see Spirituality we get to experience it too!
Our Brain provides:
· Reasoning. God says let us reason together. Isaiah 1:18
· Analysis. God says prove all things, hold onto good. 1Thes 5:21
· Understanding. God says in all get understanding. Proverbs 4:7
· Sensory. God says to taste and see his goodness. Psalm 34:8
· Focus. Set your mind on things above, not earthly things. Colos 3:2
· Emotions. Let the Joy of the Lord be your strength. Nehmh 8:10
Our brains allow us to somewhat relate to the Mind of God.
Our Belief System provides:
· Faith. Have Faith in God. Mark 11:22
· Trust. Trust the Lord with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5
· Believe. Don’t be afraid, just Believe. Luke 8:50
· Hope. Hope in the Lord will renew your strength. Isaiah 40:31
· Wait. The Lord is good to those who wait on him. Lament 3:25
· Awareness. Be still and know, I am God. Psalm 46:10
This is the way we connect with God by and through what we believe.
When we practice Anatomical Spirituality, we come into agreement with ourselves and God. We operate as one whole and complete person. Where there’s no agreement, there’ll be conflict and war. Romans 7:23
“I see a different law and rule of action in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and subduing me and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members (of the body)”
This will happen when we aren’t fully committed to express our Faith, through the mind, body & spirit.
Here’s the bottom line.
Everything God will do through you; requires the use of your Body.
This is a Thompson Truth
