What is it about “New” that makes it so attractive and desirable? It appears to have some type of Power over us.
Today let’s investigate together, The Power of New!
Everyone likes “New”; a New house, a New car, a New job, a New start, a New relationship. But why?
It’s because the idea of getting something New stimulates our brain.
When we are exposed to something New, it triggers an intoxicating mixture of brain chemistry that feeds off our innate survival instincts.
New is perceived as pleasurable, and we associate that with comfort & safety.
That quick spike of New pleasure, is what’s known as Dopamine.
The neurobiology behind a dopamine spike is that it lights up the brains reward center cells.
Biologically speaking, our brain is wired to pay close attention to anything unknown or unfamiliar.
The regular routines do not inspire much brain activity; it allows our brain to run on autopilot. SSDD, same stuff different day!
But, when something “New” appears it wakes up those sleeping cells and energizes activity.
Experiencing something new, creates flexible thinking, which wakes up your brain, and helps with mental wellness.
When New appears your brain produces dopamine, improving your mood. You feel better when you have something New…temporarily!
Experiencing something new re-connects us with our youth. We get excited just like we did when we were children. It makes life fun again.
Dopamine spikes happen when our flexible thinking increases. Flexible thinking aids in psychological health. It improves our Mental Health!
When we actively work to consider new views and ideas that we’ve not considered before, we get a shot of dopamine. A light bulb moment.
Trying something new can also help make you a better problem solver.
When you try something “New”…
· Your creativity gets reignited.
· You get new and different perspectives and gain new insights.
· You discover something new about yourself.
· You can learn a new skill or improve/enhance your old methods.
· Stepping outside of your comfort zone can make you feel more brave and help improve your confidence and self-esteem.
· It also helps your cognition skills get stronger.
These are great short-term fixes, but lasting newness can only take place when there is a transformation in our consciousness.
We need discernment to decipher between a shiny distraction juxtapose a life-changing opportunity that will lead us toward our purpose.
Busyness does not lead to Bountifulness.
Intensity does not offer the same results as Intentionality.
That’s why we are told in 1 Peter 5, to be watchful and vigilant.
We don’t want to become clouded by distractions disguised as blessings.
Change for the sake of change, or the acquisition of something new just because it appears attractive can still be harmful. Just ask Eve.
The power of New, like any other power, must be fully understood before you engage in it.
God also likes New.
He likes new beginnings and doing new things.
That was His whole purpose for creation! To do something New.
He even designed us to be New.
Our bodies produce new cells, new blood, new hair, new nails, new skin, and even new humans. Our bodies are generating new growth every day.
God also gives us New; new days, new years, and new seasons.
He even offers us a new life, in Christ.
As we were created in Gods image, we also like having new things.
We are constantly buying and producing new things. Seeking new opportunities, new experiences with new sensations. Good & Bad!
But oddly enough, when God offers us His New, we resist.
Why is it that we prefer our Old, to God’s New?
Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold/ Be aware, that I am doing a new thing; even now it springs forth, can you not discern it nor perceive it? I will make a way in your wilderness and produce a river in your desert season.
It is vital that we learn to embrace Gods New, and let go of our past successes, opportunities, and failures in order that we might prepare for the New things that God has in store for us.
When God is doing something New it will require us the embrace the unknown and unfamiliar. It will likely be scary.
Everyone who has ever experienced the abundant blessings of God had to let go of their old and grab hold with both hands and feet His New!
Tell God today that you are ready for the New, that He wants to do in and through You. Let’s experience The Power of Gods New!
This is a Thompson Truth
