STANDING WHILE SEATED
Welcome to our third segment on Divine Postures for Controlling Earthly Emotions.
Previously, we looked at being Anxiously Hopeful-Waiting Gods Way.
Next, we discussed how sometimes we can get Hope Fatigue- Not getting Weary in Well doing.
Today, we will delve into how to remain Standing while Seated-Positioned for Power.
Is sitting better than standing? Does it matter?
No one would stand all day if they had the opportunity to sit.
The body works harder when standing than when sitting.
The average person sits approximately 10 hours per day, that’s two-thirds of a person’s awake time.
But sitting for extended periods can increase your chances of a variety of diseases, including dementia, and early death.
So then, is standing better than being seated?
Standing as an alternative to sitting has been on the rise for some time now. When you walk into an office set-up, you are sure to see someone with a standing desk.
Standing is better for blood flow and respiratory ease.
In the end, standing, like sitting, are both, a form of stationary behavior.
That is why we need to learn to Stand while Seated. Both are beneficial.
How can someone stand and be seated at the same time?
Naturally, we cannot, but Spiritually, we must learn to!
Sitting is traditionally the posture for listening; it’s how children are taught to receive instruction (like sitting at the feet of a teacher).
Standing is the posture for alertness, awareness, and being attentive. A good soldier knows how to stand at attention.
Our Spiritual posture should be to sit and learn like a child, while standing like a soldier!
Sitting in the Scriptures; is the posture of those who acknowledge the Finished Work.
Believers are described as being “seated with Christ in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 2:6).
This indicates a spiritual sitting position is one of rest in God’s grace rather than working to earn salvation or hustle on a job.
Seated is a place of Peace!
Standing in Scripture; represents the posture of a soldier in Gods Army who believes the victory is already won.
Believers are commanded to “stand firm” against spiritual opposition (Ephesians 6:11), holding their ground using the armor of God.
We must learn how to Rest in who we are and what Christ has finished for us, while we Stand firm against trials and opposition from a secure position of strength and faith.
Sometimes we are seated, when we should be standing, and then at other times, when we should be standing, we are seated. Both are needed!
When we mindfully devote time to sitting, we are acknowledging that our focus is inward, not outward, and we are actively shutting out all the outside noises and distractions of the world.
Sitting helps us feel the weight of the body and opens us up to new spaces where we can reflect, resist, recognize, and dwell. We must dwell in the house of the Lord!
Sitting offers more than just a change in posture; it is a shift in relation. A time to feel our internal power, a time to breathe, and a time to be.
In sitting, we can discover what is present within us — who we are, where we are, and how we can live in peace.
The standing position symbolizes readiness, alertness, and ultimate respect as we stand before the divine presence of God.
In Christian tradition, the congregation stands for the reading of the Gospel to show their willingness to proclaim their faith openly.
The act of rising from a seated position to a standing position demonstrates active participation rather than passive observation.
This is how we transform our worship experience into something tangible and not just cerebral. Worship is a verb!
Enhancement of Personal Devotion through Mindful Positioning.
Sitting in the Mind, represents an anchor for the soul, the seated posture keeps you grounded in peace, unaffected by outside chaos.
Standing with an Awakened Spirit, represents inner elevation, your awareness is fully awake, upright, and attentive to the divine presence of God, even in a passive physical state.
The Union of these two opposites symbolizes holding balance between action and rest—being spiritually “on-guard” and also ready to serve while remaining completely at peace. That’s perfect balance!
“Standing while Seated”—means your heart and mind are risen with the divine presence of God, detached from worldly comfort, even while yet navigating daily mundane tasks and challenges in the peace of the Lord.
Standing in Power, Resting in Peace!
This is a Thompson Truth
